Hello everyone,
I am very thrilled to announce the Albany Records commercial release of "Streams in the Desert" by Meira Warshauer.
In the above “Streams in the Desert”, I am featured in Shacharit, an interpretation of the Sabbath Morning Service, which is set in both English and Hebrew. The tenor part calls for an authentic cantorial approach in addition to moments of real sensitivity. Shacharit also features soprano Stephanie Gregory and narrator Carol Potter, and the work titled Ahava (Love) features mezzo-soprano Jennifer Hines.
It was performed and recorded in February 2006 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Kirk Trevor conducted the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Philharmonic Chorus.
Ms. Warshauer later wrote that she hoped that many people, when hearing the finale of Shacharit, the "Oseh shalom" (Grant peace), would love the feeling of peace in the music so much that they would want to keep the feeling always. She wrote that she believes that music, if deeply felt, can create such an experience within the listener. It may awaken a place in us that we truly desire; it may inspire us to make that desire a reality in the world.
With current world events as they are, I can think of no better time for the release of this “Streams in the Desert”, that promotes peace for all, and it would make a perfect holiday gift for someone you love. The music is very beautiful and I ask that you pass on this information to family or friends who might be interested.
Below is the official announcement from Albany Records.
Warmest regards.
~Michael
Albany Records is proud to announce the release of Meira Warshauer’s Streams in the Desert (Troy 973), three works for orchestra, chorus and soloists inspired by the Torah. Repertoire includes Shacharit (Sabbath Morning Service) with Stephanie Gregory, soprano; Michael Hendrick, tenor; and Carol Potter, narrator; Like Streams in the Desert for Orchestra; and Ahavah (Love) with Jennifer Hines, mezzo-soprano. Kirk Trevor conducts The Slovak Philharmonic Chorus and The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Meira Warshauer has devoted much of her creative output to Jewish themes and their universal message. As she writes, “The Torah, Jewish teaching and tradition, is likened to water. It is the source of blessing and goodness, filling all who drink from its well with the knowledge of God. I hope this recording will help to satisfy our thirst and encourage us to continue opening our hearts to the Eternal Spirit in each of us.”
Warshauer also writes: The Sabbath Morning Service is a spiritual journey of praise, revelation, prayer, and exultation. Shacharit is a personal expression of this journey. It emanates from my soul’s yearning to relate something of the awe and beauty I feel in the presence of the Holy One… Like Streams in the Desert was commissioned and premiered by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Neal Gittleman, Music Director, to recognize the 50th anniversary of the state of Israel. It is inspired by Psalm 126, whose theme is the return of exiles to Zion… Ahavah uses a text from Deuteronomy which asserts the need for morality and love in sustaining life on earth.”
